okay. i'm back.

i'm feeling a little more at peace than the last time i posted on here. there's a lot to be said about that, but i'll save it for another time because at this moment my head isn't in it (i've been watching a lot of the office today on netflix so... that's my explanation, lol).

anyway, since last i talked, i turned 28. i feel like the oldest 28 year old on the face of the earth. i sang along with a francesca batistelli song that starts out saying, 'at 20 years of age, i'm still looking for a dream...' and snickered at myself because i am by no means 20 years old anymore. i got married and had a baby when i was 20, which made me feel like the oldest 20 year old on the face of the earth at the time. ah, how young and naive i was then. and when i'm 38, i'll probably look back at 28 and think, 'ah, how naive i was then' again. if i can remember my age by the time i turn 38.

ryan's gonna be 30 this year, and it makes me laugh. he was 21 when we met and looked so young in the pictures from back then. i look exactly the same. now we both look like we're 27. i think i can live with that. i think i may throw him a big bash, but haven't decided yet. maybe a good excuse to purchase a cute sun dress for june!

the ant infestation reached a climax a few days ago, and thankfully after much raid they have waned. i was about to lose my mind.

the other night i was lying on the couch watching tv after the kids went to bed. all the lights were turned out, and in usual fashion, i feel asleep. something woke me, although i can't remember what it was, but when i awoke, macy (our cat) had a mouse in the middle of the living room floor. she'd been staked out in front of our piano, next to the peddles, waiting for it to make its escape, and managed to land it on its way out about midnight. i turned on the overhead light from the couch and checked out the situation from my perch where i noticed macy had dropped the mouse between her two front paws. it wasn't moving, but from past experience, i knew it was either in shock or faking. two seconds later, the mouse made a run for it STRAIGHT AT THE COUCH. of course i squealed from surprise but macy had the situation under control, catching the mouse and taking it back to the middle of the floor. i got off the couch and tried to encourage macy to take the mouse out the front door, but she dropped the mouse again. i kept thinking, 'how to i coax her into picking the mouse back up? how does one tell a cat such a thing?' and then the mouse made another run for it, this time away from me, thankfully. macy once again caught it and brought it back. being the smart one i am, i opened the front door while she was on her way back, so when she sat down, i didn't give her time to drop the mouse again. i carried macy, who carried the mouse, out the door. i haven't heard from the mouse since.

and now, for an abrupt ending. i have to get nat out of the bathroom. she insisted on taking a bath, and when i said no, she climbed up and used a bar of soap to take a "bath" in the sink (she pretty much just lathered up her arms, legs, and belly and i have to rinse her off). that girl is too smart and too independent for her own good. she gets it from her mama ;)
